The 2012 Founder’s Reserve Pinot Noir is a fantastic example of why the Carneros appellation holds such a prominent place on the grape-growing map. The Hanzell clone from ZD’s organically certified Carneros Estate has consistently rewarded us with small bunches, tiny berries and wonderfully concentrated flavors.

ZD’s winemaking approach complements our intensive “hands on” management in the vineyard. Gentle de-stemming, fermenting with 30% whole berries and hand punch downs around the clock ensure a gentle extraction of color, flavor and tannin.

Aged for 15 months in 100% French Oak barrels, this wine is an excellent expression of our vineyard’s terroir. Aromas of dark cherries, rhubarb, plum and cedar mingle with subtle hints of toasted nuts, sweet vanilla and clove. On the palate, the ripe fruit and subtle oak integrate beautifully and lead to a long, silky finish.
