We are building upon the great momentum of ZD Wines’ Rosé with this new release of 2020 Rosa Lee Pinot Noir Rosé. This wine is a unique blend of organically certified grapes from Napa Valley: 84% Pinot Noir, 11% Flora, and 5% Grenache. Using stainless-steel for both fermentation and ageing, this wine is crisp and refreshing.
In our never-ending pursuit of crafting wines that highlight our mantra, zero defects, we have historically used whole-cluster pressing for rosé-style wines. In the spirit of experimentation, we divided the fruit into two equal parts on our crush pad. Half of the wine was made from the whole-cluster free run juice, and the other half was destemmed before putting the whole berries to the press. Both press cycles had great results and were blended together before bottling.
The beautiful light pink color of this Rosé was achieved through gentle pressing and exclusion of all press cuts. The result is something reminiscent of the personality of our co-founder and my grandma Rosa Lee, feminine and approachable yet packed with character. The distinct aroma of candied strawberry is backed up by subtle citrus and crushed stone. Zippy acidity leads into a complex texture of subtle effervescence and a round opulent mouth feel. Flavors of strawberry bubblegum and grapefruit lead into a long and clean finish driven by minerality which leaves you ready for more. We hope that a bit of Rosa Lee’s unpredictability, vivacity, and fun nature live on through her wine. Only 600 cases were produced.
