This release of ZD Wines California Chardonnay is yet another testament to our unique style and commitment to producing world-class wines, even when faced with the many challenges of the 2020 harvest in Wine Country due to the wildfires. Through our discerning selection of cool, coastal vineyards from as far south as Santa Barbara, to Monterey, and to our own Napa and Sonoma Carneros appellations, coupled with careful winemaking in our state-of-the-art cellar, we are incredibly proud of this offering of Chardonnay. All the grapes are certified organic, as this wine stays true to our style and our “Zero Defects” philosophy.
Each vineyard lot was night harvested by hand at optimal maturities and 100% American Oak barrel fermented slowly at a chilly 48°F. This long, cool fermentation preserves the vibrant tropical and citrus aromas, while also helping to inhibit any malo-lactic fermentation, thus maintaining a perfect balance of forward fruit and bright, natural acidity.
Forward aromas of guava, pear, and tropical fruit are complemented by subtle hints of orange blossom, peach, and vanilla. The palate is full bodied and rich with notes of pineapple, Asian pear, and lemon rind that integrate harmoniously with the natural acidity and toasty oak. Like many ZD Chardonnays, this wine is drinking wonderfully now, but will also age and develop beautifully over the next several years.
