Early rains and a long, moderate, dry growing season with very few heat spikes allowed for optimal ripening conditions for our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon in 2019. The grape sugars came up slowly and flavors developed beautifully. Noted overall as an “uneventful” harvest by our winemaking team, which always makes for the best wine quality!

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was produced with our finest organically farmed vineyard lots in Napa Valley. It is an exceptional example of ZD’s long-held belief in the art of blending, and how different sites can produce a wine that exceeds its individual parts. Each vineyard lot was fermented and barrel aged separately for one year before blending, and aged for an additional two years in American Oak barrels.

This wine is showing beautifully with aromas of blackberry, cassis, and strawberry jam mingled with savory notes of anise, allspice, cola, and luscious vanilla. The palate is intensely layered with ripe, dark fruits including plum, dark cherries, and a hint of cocoa. The soft yet plentiful tannins envelope the ripe core of fruit and lead to an incredibly long, silky finish. Only 11 barrels of this wine were produced.
