The 2018 Rosa Lee Chardonnay was fun to produce from grape to bottle! This Napa Valley wine is a tribute to my grandmother and ZD Wines’ co-founder Rosa Lee deLeuze, whose favorite varietal was Chardonnay. She would’ve certainly been pleased with this new offering, and equally enjoyed this wine’s journey.
The Rosa Lee Chardonnay gave us an opportunity to explore new winemaking techniques that provided a lot of “firsts” at the winery. This wine was fermented and aged in concrete and stainless steel tanks - not even a kiss of oak. The two concrete tanks were integrated with soil from our organically certified vineyard estates, one from Carneros and the other Rutherford. This wine stands out in our portfolio of Chardonnay wines as it went through a beautiful duo of partial malolactic fermentation along with the concrete aging, adding a graceful textural layer to the palate.
Incredibly refreshing with bright tropical aromas jumping out of the glass. The concrete aging and slight malolactic fermentation add to the medium-bodied mouthfeel. Peaches and cream mingle with tangerine and lemon zest, with a lingering finish of guava and pear. From the first sip to the last, this wine is ready to enjoy now and will definitely leave you wishful for more.
Only 500 cases produced.
