The 2018 vintage marked ZD Wines’ 50th anniversary, an incredible milestone for a small, family-owned winery committed to producing world-class wines of the highest quality. Mother Nature fulfilled our expectations for this momentous vintage by rewarding us with an outstanding growing season that has led to some amazing wines, including this 2018 California Chardonnay!
The grapes for this wine were hand harvested at night and barrel fermented in our cellar at 48-50F. This long, cold barrel fermentation ensured bright tropical and citrus aromas were highlighted, while the natural acidity was preserved, inhibiting the secondary malolactic fermentation. Aging for 10 months in American Oak barrels also added richness and balance to this wine.
This wine is bursting with aromas of ripe pineapple, apricot and orange blossom. Subtle hints of sweet vanilla, pear, and honey add to the incredibly complex aromas. Full bodied and rich on the palate, the wine is flavored with the ripe, tropical fruit and toasted oak that integrate nicely with the balanced acidity. This wine is drinking beautifully now and will continue to develop complexity for some time.
