Award Winning
*2012 Chardonnay, CA

Tasting Notes
Textbook conditions and a near-ideal growing season provided Napa Valley with what is being called a perfect 2012 vintage. The extended season of warm days and cool nights allowed for very slow ripening and optimal flavor development. All the fruit for this 100% Chardonnay was hand harvested at night, ensuring it arrived at our Rutherford wine cellar in pristine condition. A long, cold barrel fermentation (48° F) in 100% American Oak with no malolactic highlights ZD’s signature style of producing rich, yet balanced fruit-driven Chardonnays.
The 2012 Chardonnay pairs well with a wide range of dishes, and also ages beautifully. Bright, forward aromas of guava and tropical fruit are complemented by subtle hints of orange blossom and sweet vanilla. The palate is full bodied and lush with notes of pineapple, mandarin and lemon rind that integrate wonderfully with the natural acidity and subtle oak.
