*2009 Pinot Noir, Carneros
Library Selection Wine
This 2009 Carneros Pinot Noirs kicked off ZD Wines’ 5th decade of producing world class Pinot Noir from this cool, growing region. Made exclusively from grapes grown on Jim Haire’s organically certified vineyard, this wine is a blend of clones Dijon 667, 777, 115 and Pommard 4.
The fruit was hand harvested at optimum maturity, gently de-stemmed and fermented in small open top fermentors. During fermentation, hand punch downs every six hours ensured a gentle, yet effective extraction of color and tannin. The wine then “rests” for ten months in 100% French oak barrels.
With an incredible dark ruby color and intense aromas of black cherry, rhubarb, clove and spice, this wine is showing great complexity. The palate is ripe and lush, with hints of cedar, cherry, and bramble fruit flavors. A perfectly balanced wine with nice tannins and acidity.
