Napa Behind the Bottle showcases samples from the first major book to be published by Bill Tucker and is a culmination of nine years of work photographing the Napa Valley community of winemakers, winery owners and workers. Tucker’s compelling and powerful works capture the character of this famous community and are not just a collection of portraits, but rather a series of touching, curious, dramatic and sometimes whimsical images. In the forward to his book, Margrit Mondavi writes, “It is an ongoing art experience. A book that every vintner, everyone interested in deep personage study, every lover of art and wine, must have and treasure…” The elements, the textures, the vines and the barrel rooms all influence the photographs, but the images remain about the hardworking people who have aspired to make Napa wines the most sought after in the world.
