2009 ZD Wines Rosa Lee Barbera, Napa Valley -- Harvested from the Twin Creeks Vineyard in Wooden Valley, this 2009 Napa Valley Barbera is the newest addition to our ever popular Rosa Lee's Whim offerings, where we continue to explore new and exciting varietals. Barbera is the most widely planted varietal in the Piedmont region of Italy. Prized for its intense color, supple tannins and bright acidity, Barbera pairs beautifully with pizza and pastas, and ages quite nicely due to its higher acidity. This Barbera has a lovely ruby color and aromas reminiscent of cherries, raspberry and plum. Subtle hints of cedar, spice and vanilla integrate with the soft, velvety tannins and bright acidity which further highlight this wine's depth and complexity. Only 590 cases were produced. Enjoy!

2010 ZD Wines Chardonnay, California -- This
2010 ZD Wines California Chardonnay is yet another testament to our unique
style and pursuit of richness and balance through our careful selection of
cool, coastal vineyards from as far south as Santa Barbara and Monterey counties
to our own Napa and Sonoma Carneros appellations. All of the grapes were
harvested at optimal maturities and 100% barrel fermented in our cellar which
is kept at a chilly 48°F during fermentation. This long, cool fermentation
preserves the vibrant tropical and clean citrus aromas while also helping to
inhibit any malo-lactic fermentation, thus maintaining a balance of forward
fruit and bright natural acidity. Aromas of pineapple, guava and pear mingle
with hints of vanilla and orange blossoms. The palate is full bodied and rich
with the perfect balance between fruit, oak and acidity. Like many ZD
Chardonnays, this wine is a joy to drink when young but will also age and
develop beautifully for many years to come. Enjoy!
2010 ZD Wines Rosa Lee Pinot Grigio, Carneros -- We are proud to present this vibrant Pinot Grigio from the Carneros region. Staying in step with the whims of our Founder, Rosa Lee, we are eager to share California's second most planted white grape variety with you. Pinot Grigio's heritage actually stems from Pinot Noir, and produces grapes with a grayish pink color. Sourced from the cool Carneros growing region, we harvested on the last day of September at a ripe 26.5 degrees brix. A long cold fermentation in stainless steel barrels helped capture this variety's mouth-watering character. With aromas of ripe peach, apricot, pineapple and honeysuckle, the wine is rich, succulent and round with a lingering finish, yet still exposing some minerality notes. Perfect for summer, pair this wine with a cheese plate, barbeque chicken, or an afternoon by the pool.

2009 ZD Wines Reserve Chardonnay, Carneros -- This 2009 Reserve Chardonnay marks an important milestone for ZD Wines being the first Reserve Chardonnay made exclusively from the ZD Carneros Estate Vineyard. After purchasing this property in 1996, we began farming the vineyard 100% organically. The fruit was selected from one of the newer blocks (Block 4) that was replanted in 2003 to the Dijon Clone 95; a clone that tends to produce wines that are rich in flavor and well balanced. The Carneros region, with its close proximity to the San Pablo Bay, allows for a long, cool growing season. Chardonnay thrives in this environment and the additional hang time results in a perfect marriage of flavors and natural acidity. Extended cold barrel fermentation in our cellar helps to preserve distinctive fruit aromas and enough "lees contact" to produce a wonderful richness with no malo-lactic fermentation. Finally, extended aging for 15 months in small American oak barrels, selected for their delicacy, produced a wine that shows intense aromas of Asian pear, guava, apple, sweet vanilla and a hint of clove. On the palate the fruit and oak integrate nicely. Only 500 cases of this wine were produced. Enjoy with friends and family!- Chris Pisani, Winemaker

2010 ZD Wines Pinot Noir, Carneros -- The 2010 harvest reminded everyone that Mother Nature is always in charge. A cool, wet spring set flowering and fruit set back by at least two weeks, followed by a cooler than normal June/July and then a two day heat spike in August that wiped out previous heat records and about 20% of our Pinot Noir crop. Needless to say, there were many sleepless nights for everyone. But, as always, patience was rewarded in the end, and a somewhat smaller pinot crop ripened perfectly through September and when Jim Haire arrived on Oct 5th with the first pick of our organically farmed Clone 667 Carneros Pinot Noir, we were reminded once again why the Carneros produces some of the best Pinot Noir in the world. With a gorgeous dark ruby color, and intense aromas of briary black cherry and raspberry mingled with hints of cedar, sarsaparilla, and rhubarb, this 2010 Carneros Pinot Noir is drinking beautifully right now and should age gracefully for many years to come. Enjoy! - Chris Pisani, Winemaker
2009 ZD Wines Founder's Reserve Pinot Noir, Carneros -- This 2009 vintage is a testament to the effort we make both in the vineyard and in winemaking. ZD Wines' organically farmed Carneros Estate Vineyard has been producing exceptional Pinot Noir for ten years, and has once again rewarded us with a wine that is focused on the purity of fruit and great concentration. Our vineyard is dry-farmed and meticulously tended to by Rafael Llamas, Vineyard Manager (who worked closely with the deLeuze family in establishing this vineyard in 1996). Notoriously small bunches and berries from the Hanzell clonal selection, with low yields producing less than 2 tons per acre , have helped add a complexity to the wine. In the cellar, gentle winemaking practices amplify the efforts in the vineyard. Gentle de-stemming, fermentation in small open top fermentors, and hand punch downs every six hours provide a nice extraction of flavor, color and tannin. Minimal racking and aging in small toasted French Oak barrels for 15 months puts the final touch on this elegant wine. Aromas of black cherries, ripe plum, and subtle notes of rhubarb, toasted nuts, sweet vanillin and cedar. On the palate, there is plenty of dense ripe fruit, rounded out by a wonderful balance. A wine to be enjoyed now or held onto for many years to come. Only 780 cases produced. Our Founder Norman deLeuze picture is depicted on the front label, this wine is an on-going labor of love and commemoration of his legacy. .

2008 ZD Wines Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley -- The 2008 vintage marked our 40th harvest of producing world class wines. This vintage will also be remembered in the Napa Valley for its dramatic growing season! Winter was unseasonably dry, followed by an extended frost in the Spring which reduced yields throughout many vineyards in the valley. Summer and Fall experienced fairly mild temperatures and allowed the grapes to ripen evenly and perfectly. Our 40th Anniversary vintage shaped up to be a well balanced crop, even though slightly lower in yields compared to previous years. ZD's Cabernet is produced from several small intensely farmed vineyards and the final blend consistently results in a unique wine layered with flavor. Each vineyard lot was fermented separately in small open top fermentors with regular hand punch downs during fermentation ensuring a gentle extraction of tannin and color. After one year in American Oak barrels and frequent blind tastings at the winery, the vineyard lots were blended and barrel aged for an additional year before bottling in July 2010. Wonderful aromas of blackberry and cassis with hints of clove and sweet vanilla are inviting. The palate is full and rich; packed with ripe dark berry and plum flavors rounded out by a nice long finish. It is drinking beautifully now, and will continue to develop complexity with time. Celebrate ZD Wines' 40th Anniversary Cabernet Sauvignon and enjoy!

2008 ZD Wines Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley --
The 2008 vintage marked an important
milestone for ZD Wines; 40 years of producing world class wines of quality and
distinction, and a commitment by the deLeuze family to continue this tradition
of excellence with three generations working together to elevate the "Zero
Defects" name. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of our best Napa Valley
lots, and is an excellent example of ZD's belief in the art of blending, and
how different sites can produce a wine that exceeds its individual parts. With
ZD's own organically farmed Rutherford Estate as the backbone, this wine is
showing wonderfully now. Aromas of cassis, black cherry and plum intermingle
with subtle hints of clove, anise, tobacco and sweet toasty vanilla. The palate
is loaded with fruit and lush, well balanced tannins that carry the wine
through to an incredibly long finish. The oak is present but well integrated
and gives the wine an added layer of complexity. Less than 800 cases of this
wine were produced. Enjoy!
