Mother Nature is a Flip Flopper

What does this mean for the 2008 Vintage?

Spring 2008 has turned into quite a roller coaster ride so far. We experienced record breaking frost in April that claimed about 15 potential tons from Jim Haire’s Pinot Noir Vineyard in Carneros and maybe as much as 6-8 tons of Cabernet Sauvignon from Dever Vineyard. The weather then flip-flopped and we set a couple more records for heat in early May, with several days in a row over 100 degrees. Sometimes, in the Napa Valley, it is easy to forget that we are still at the mercy of Mother Nature! Luckily, grapevines are well-adapted to these swings and while the loss of crop from the frost is unfortunate, most of our vineyards rode through the wild weather unscathed. With beautiful Napa Valley weather, we will finish bloom, berry set, and be on our way to ripening delicious fruit!
