Ask any ZD Wines broker to name their key contact and problem solver at ZD, and they'll say Julie de Leuze. Julie, artist, chef, lunchtime Domino champion and administrator at ZD Wines, is responsible for the administrative functions at the winery, tracking sales, maintaining inventory control, preparing production and shipment reports, and insuring compliance with legal entities. Julie receives the greatest of adoration from all employees, as she also does all payroll.
In 1980, when Julie started full time at ZD, her duties included working on the bottling line, testing grapes in the vineyards and manning the table in the cellar which was called the "Tasting Room."
Julie is also the artist of the de Leuze family. She created custom stained glass windows and custom lamps at a studio in Santa Cruz. She has participated in numerous arts & craft shows over the years, showing her stained glass work. She created the stained glass window that adorned the original entrance to the winery before the renovation in 1992. A more recent hobby and love is pottery. Most of the fruits of this hobby, mainly bowls, plates and serving dishes, go to friends and relatives as gifts.
Also known as the "Crush Chef", Julie enjoys preparing dinners for the cellar crew
who work during crush. Her taco salad is always a favorite and complements
the Pinot Noir wonderfully. Accompanying many meals are fresh picked vegetables
from her garden outside the ZD kitchen, which boasts all the summer vegetables.
Now she has added skydiving to her list of hobbies.
