The sun is bright, the days are cool and the mustard in the deLeuze Family Carneros Vineyard is chest high. Rafael, Vineyard Manager, treads softly through the rows, looking for the rising sap that will indicate that bud break is on its way. Having recently pruned the vineyards to stimulate new growth and fruit production, it is nearly time for the new buds to appear.
Tiny buds will soon emerge from the gnarled winter vines. To ensure their growth, Rafael monitors the weather in anticipation of the threat of frost. Huge vineyard fans are poised to kick on, ready to mix in the warmer air from above if nighttime temperatures drop to freezing.
In spring, the vines will be tied back to the trellis while compost produced from the last harvest is turned into the ground to promote fertilization, healthy soil and thriving vines.

Intrigue your palate and challenge your varietal pronunciation with the 2008 Napa Valley Mourvèdre (moor-VE-druh). Aromas of dried cherry, cedar and cocoa predominate, with subtle hints of plum and spice, and even a touch of earthiness. Only 370 cases were produced.

2008 Founder's Reserve Pinot Noir, Carneros
In honor of our Founder, Norman deLeuze, we have made the decision to continue with this commemorative labeling for our Reserve Pinot Noir. This 2008 vintage also marks our 40th anniversary. Dark ruby/garnet color, forward black cherry and plum aromas mingle with subtle hints of cedar, bramble and toasted nuts. Only 750 cases were produced.

Spring Barrel Tasting of Cabernet! Join Barbie and Chris of ZD Wines for this unique experience to sample 100 current release Cabernets from California and be the first to taste the upcoming 2009 Cabernet vintage. Gourmet appetizers will be provided to accompany the 20th Annual Spring Barrel Tasting. Held at the Bently Reserve in San Francisco, we hope to see you there.
